There is an old song with a chorus that states, "There is power, power, wonder-working power, in the precious blood of the Lamb...."
The Supreme Court will determine if a cross in the Mojave National Preserve will be allowed to stand or will be torn down. I'll let you know where I stand: "Don't you dare take it down!" For decades we have seen Christ and His Father taken out of the public square. As a public school graduate, I remember the Ten Commandments being posted on the wall, Christmas songs honoring Christ and prayers before meetings. I also remember when they were stripped from my education and the school system. The question is this: has this social experiment succeeded? Has it made us more enlightened, or have we become like a ship without a rudder? I would suggest that the experiment has not succeeded and that our nation must turn back to its Judeo-Christian heritage.
In my lifetime of just 41 years I have seen my government take away this Judeo-Christian heritage from our nation. Now, that same government wrings its hands and wonders why Chicago has a problem with gang violence. I find it interesting that the government takes away the voice of the church through IRS tax codes and then it wonders why crime rates have doubled, tripled or quadrupled in every category since 1960.
The atheist will argue that there is no God. My question to the atheist is this: Why would you care about two boards thrown together (the Cross) if it didn't reach your soul? Why would you spend millions of dollars trying to rid this symbol from future generations and the public square if it didn't have any power? It is true that "there is nothing new under the Sun." In John 12:43 it states, "...for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God."
I am sure that you can sense frustration in this piece, however I know that God is in control, and I am praying for another Spiritual Awakening to occur (sooner rather than later). The Cross has power due to its Message, and that Message brings hope and freedom. Take away the cross and the freedom to express God in the public arena and we take away the very fabric that formed this great country.
Supreme Court Hears Mojave Cross Case
Justices to Decide if Memorial to WW I Vets Constitutional
Deep in the heart of the Mojave National Preserve in California stands a five foot cross carefully disguised in a plywood box.
The U.S. Park Service was forced to cover the cross until the Supreme Court decides whether the cross can remain in its place as a monument to fallen soldiers during World War I, or whether it must come down because its presence violates the Constitution.
The case is the latest in a recent flurry of challenges to religious symbols placed on public property.
The cross was constructed more than 70 years ago by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
It stood peacefully for over 60 years the Park Service was asked if a Buddhist Shrine could also be built near the cross.
