Rokita and redistricting
This could be Todd Rokita's best achievement...."if passed". The obvious problem with all of this- politicians hate to give up any control of power.

Rokita to roll out redistricting proposal

Indiana's secretary of state today will discuss his proposal for redrawing congressional and legislative district boundaries.
Todd Rokita proposed in September a campaign to pass reforms in 2010 to take politics out of the process as much as possible, an effort backed by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

In April 2011, the legislature should receive 2010 census data used to draw state legislative and congressional maps before it adjourns at the end of this month. If the House and Senate disagree on congressional maps, a special commission of lawmakers and an appointee of the governor will decide those boundaries.
Today, Rokita "will recommend that the General Assembly adopt a redistricting process that puts people before politics by keeping communities of interest together and eliminating the use of political data from the process of redrawing political boundaries," according to a statement sent Monday by spokesman Jim Gavin.
Rokita today plans to outline issues with the redistricting process. He also will show how he used criteria to draw fair, easily understood concept maps based on 2000 census data, according to the statement.
